About Kevin D. Starkey...

The Beginning

I've had an interest in fitness since the age of twelve when I lifted weights for the first time. It was such a great feeling to complete each set and when I was finished with the workout, that feeling of accomplishment was priceless. From that day forward, I'd hit the weights from time to time and maintained an active lifestyle in many sports such as football, basketball, tennis, martial arts, and track and field. At the age of seventeen, I began taking fitness and weight training more seriously. At that time, I was finishing high school and weighed in at 155 pounds. I was far from a muscular physique, but I was healthy and fit. Within a few years, and with steady weightlifting sessions, I put on over forty pounds of muscle and I was feeling great physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Areas of Interest

Over the years, I've coached youth sports such as soccer, football and basketball for ages ranging from 4 years up to 18 years. It's always been rewarding to pass my knowledge on to the youth of my community and, above all, promote healthy, fit living and good sportsmanship. I have a strong interest in youth fitness and intend on earning my specialty certification in youth fitness training in the future.

I also have a desire to offer personal training to those with special needs and intend on earning my specialty certification for training this population in the future; physical and mental disabilities, chronic injuries or physical limitations, those suffering from disease, etc. As I often say, and strongly believe, fitness is much more than physical. When you are as physically fit as you can be, you inherently feel better about yourself and your situation. Your mental and emotional health improve as a result of improved physical health. With these improvements, your confidence, self-worth, personal happiness and self-esteem all take a step forward helping you to be the best person you can be, no matter what your individual situation is. Happiness can be contagious. The more happy people there are in the world, the happier the world will be; and EVERYONE deserves to share in that happiness!

Experience and Pursuit of Knowledge

Throughout my personal training certification process, I learned a great deal about what it takes to be truly fit, and I continue to learn as I pursue further certifications and specialties. Not only have I gained technical knowledge, such as proper lifting techniques and an understanding of exercise physiology, I gained a much deeper understanding of the importance of proper nutrition. The combination of a sensible diet and a well-designed exercise program can provide many benefits, not only physically but mentally and emotionally as well; True Body, Mind, and Soul Fitness.

Prior to certifying as a personal trainer, I worked as a training specialist with a prominent utility company. This was quite helpful in transitioning into the personal training industry. Working with different personalities and learning curves prepared me to work with a variety of clients as a personal trainer. Also, one of my main responsibilities was designing and developing training curriculum. This has helped mold my decision making in terms of designing fitness routines for myself as well as my clients.

My Passion

I learned long ago, due to my work experiences as well as coaching athletics, that everyone I instruct needs, and deserves, their own method of training. Sure, there are templates that can be followed, but they need to be adjusted to allow for the full potential of the client to be realized.

I've always enjoyed instructing others and helping them to reach their goals. Personal training gives me the platform to combine my own personal fitness with helping others to achieve theirs. I'm very passionate about helping as many people as I can to reach their highest level of personal fitness... Body, Mind and Soul.
