The NCCPT...

History

The National Council for Certified Personal Trainers (accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies) was started in Southern California by John Platero in September of 1995, when he was promoted to Director of Personal Training for a chain of health clubs known as LA FITNESS. Faced with the common problem of having to increase revenue without a qualified staff, John decided to create a vehicle by which he could recruit new personal trainers, teach them the basics, and provide these future professionals with a system to earn a good living while they continue to learn and grow as a Certified Personal Trainer.

The Curriculum

The NCCPT personal training certification presents the academic information of health and fitness or personal training in a very special, practical manner. Similar to a trade school, students learn the curriculum in a way that allows them to apply the subject matter in their daily sessions; delivering safe and effective exercise programs to their clients. The course is an overall approach to personal training and includes extensive information in subjects such as Exercise Physiology, Nutrition, Special Populations, Anatomy, Program Design, Exercise Application, Health Screenings, and more, delivered by health and fitness experts with many years of experience.

The NCCPT Philosophy

Guided by the two most important concepts in personal training, Periodization from Tudor Bompa (one of the world's foremost sports training experts) and the SAID Principle (Specific Adaptation for Imposed Demand) we teach our personal trainers how to evaluate, understand, adapt and respond to the needs of clients (not just stick to a template of training that can become tiresome and suffocating). Our trainers not only know how to train, they understand how to combine the art and the science of personal training. Good personal trainers follow a plan, great personal trainers know how to adjust the plan for every type of client... We strive to create great personal trainers.
